List of biological species in China in 2019
Biodiversity is an important national strategic resource and an irreplaceable material base in the sustainable development of social economy. In order to protect biodiversity and build ecological civilization, we must know how many species there are in China and what species there are. Since 2008, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has organized more than 100 taxonomic experts to catalogue and study the species published in China based on specimens and documents, and update them annually in the form of annual list, which is publicly released to the public, so as to provide free names and classification distribution information of China's animals, plants, fungi and other taxonomic groups for global users. China is the only country in the world that publishes the annual list of biological species every year. CoL-China is also listed as the data source by the "Catalog of Life" compiled by international Species 2000, which has a wide range of influence at home and abroad. CoL-China collects and sorts out taxonomic information in strict accordance with the international species 2000 standard. In the list, each species contains Latin scientific name, Chinese name, synonym, alias, distribution area, classification system and related literature information. Each data is validated by taxonomists and shared with CoL. There are more than 100000 species and infaspecific units in 2019 annual checklist of CoL-China, reaching 106509, including 94260 species and 12249 infraspecific units.
